OUR STORY Following a lifelong dream of owning her own business, in 2006 Kim Dixon of Saugatuck Michigan, opened her coffee shop. It was not just a regular coffee shop, but rather a branding experience capturing the charm of this resort village nestled on the shores of Lake Michigan. A popular destination for the Chicago crowd, Saugatuck is a unique blend of art, nature, taste, entertainment, community, friendship and openness. Appropriately named Saugatuck Coffee Company, the shop has captured the essence of this unique piece of heaven, from the unique artistic logo (a palette instead of a saucer, spoons for brushes, and an “S” to form the steam from the coffee), to the warm colors of the inside, to the spirit of community and laughter that meets you once there. After three years of successful operation in Saugatuck, spurred by a personal move to Chicago, Kim decided to relocate her shop to “Boys Town”. Having spent time in the neighborhood with her many friends, she became increasingly convinced that Saugatuck Coffee Company would be a great fit to this area. This independent coffee shop, enriched by the unique experience of Saugatuck, is a great addition to the vibrant businesses in the Halsted/Roscoe area. As the initial reviews attest, this indeed is the place to be.
In addition to the extraordinary ambiance, you will find a vast array of desserts and a variety of savory snacks. The shop focuses on offering a selection of delectable treats from local independent “artisans”. Understanding the importance of entrepreneurs our goal is to showcase local vendors with a similar entrepreneurial dream as Saugatuck Coffee Company (Hoosier Mama Pie Company, Katherine Anne Confections, Milk & Honey Granola, Eat Green Foods, Tea Essence, Otto’s Oats, Be True Bakery, Supa Zuppa, to name a few) The selection continues to expand as these local artisans and SCC work together to support each other’s dream. Saugatuck Coffee Company offers specialty coffees blended specifically for the café by Magnum Roasters of Nunica, Michigan. Magnum is one of the few coffee roasters to own a trading company, through Café Trading Company long term relationships with coffee bean growers in Central America, South America, Hawaii, Jamaica, the Dominican Republic, Africa and Indonesia have been established. These relationships allow Magnum Roasters to provide exceptional gourmet coffee. Our coffee is produced by the finest beans grown in the area between the Tropic of Cancer and the Tropic of Capricorn, the region that yields the world’s best coffee. These gourmet Arabica coffee beans are grown between 4,000 and 6,000 feet above sea level to gain smooth rich taste. Within 24 hours of roasting the beans are delivered fresh to Saugatuck Coffee Company.
